Guru Rinpoche Day

  • Academy of Mantric Disciplines 119 Roosevelt Drive Poughquag, NY, 12570 United States (map)

May 24th marks the 10th day of the lunar calendar when the male energy of skillful means is most prevalent.

This day also marks the Anniversary of Guru Padmavajra, one of Guru Rinpoche's manifestations. On the 10th day of the month of the Sheep, when the evil ministers of Oddiyana tried to burn Guru Rinpoche and his consort Mandarava alive. Guru Rinpoche transformed the fire into a lake and emerged with Mandarava on a lotus.  The people of Oddiyana were instantly inspired with devotion at the sight of the miracle and accomplished liberation in short time thereafter.  Because he was like an ocean of Dharma embodying the words of the Buddha, Guru Rinpoche became known as Guru Padmavajra, the Guru with the Lotus and the Vajra.
